The art of simple answers to complex questions

Etec

As CEO of ETEC Teknikutbildning, Ylva Alexandersson has seen Anders Andersson from Fagerberg help many professionals be better at what they do first-hand. And how he does it in a way that can make small kids (and automation technicians, too) sit still.

They got to know each other when they were on the board of ITF Automation, and already back then, they liked each other’s ideas. The collaboration evolved, and as there was no literature on measurement technology for the process industry, Anders and his colleagues at RISE wrote one, Ylva Alexandersson recalls.

Today, she is the CEO and owner of Etec Teknikutbildning. Here, future electrical and automation engineers are trained, and ETEC also offers corporate training for the industry.

“When companies started to ask me about shorter courses, I immediately thought of Anders. I talked to him, and we agreed to try it out. It was an instant success, and now he holds two courses per year”, says Ylva Alexandersson.

The courses, which last 3–5 days and are tailored to the industry's maintenance and operational staff, are widely popular. According to Ylva Alexandersson, one reason for this is Anders’ personality.

“He is a brilliant pedagogue and a person that can even get children to sit still and listen,” says Ylva Alexandersson, and continues:

“One of his key features is that he never elevates himself. He has simple answers to the toughest questions and turns the complex into something participants feel is fun and easy. A recurring comment when the courses are over is: Isn’t it harder than this? To me, that’s a great rating.”

Ylva Alexandersson points out that measurement technology is an area where you can always be sure of the wrong results. She mentions the many ways to measure and how all of those can be disrupted.

“You need a best friend within measurement technology, and that’s what you get from Anders and Fagerberg,” she says and concludes: “He can show how different and better everything can be only from your handling. Measurement technology is tricky but feels much easier when he talks about it.”
